Garden School Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to providing meaningful education for underserved youth in Los Angeles through garden-based learning in outdoor living classrooms.
Garden School Foundation is on the cusp of expanding its school-based Seed to Table program model to more schools and children in Los Angeles than ever before. It also has recently published a comprehensive garden-based science and nutrition curriculum as well as begun an innovative teacher-training program with support from Whole Kids Foundation. They are doing all of this while thoughtfully navigating a major leadership transition and the typical sustainability challenges that face all non-profits.
Team Tipton Senior Change Architect Erin Breeze couldn’t wait to get started with the Garden School Foundation (GSF) after she met the organization’s two dynamic co-directors at one of their schools in Los Angeles. Erin knows firsthand the challenges facing new executives in the non-profit sector. She also developed an executive co-directorship so she understands how to make this model successful. Our solution for GSF centers on executive coaching for GSF’s co-directors focused on leadership development, governance and board development. Team Tipton hopes GSF will be ready to take part in a full Design the Future Process soon.
Team Tipton’s work with Garden School Foundation is now in its sixth month. GSF Co-directors have described their time with Erin as “inspiring.” Here’s what one of them has to say, “Navigating the non-profit sector, with all of its uncertainties and possibilities, can be a daunting job to tackle. Erin’s support and guidance has helped us to clearly define goals and create strategic steps to accomplish them. Her support has both strengthened the future of the Garden School Foundation and helped build confidence in my own growth as a leader in this field. We are eternally grateful for Team Tipton and their passion to support others through their wisdom and experience.”
